The Struggle is REAL

I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon for The DePelchin Children’s Center last week. Every once in a while there is a speaker that holds my attention. The speaker was introduced as a Harvard graduate that has appeared on CNN, FOX, The Oprah Winfrey Show, etc. Subconsciously, I was not expecting someone who had dealt with many struggles. He was articulate, well dressed, educated and successful.

Boy was I wrong!

Josh Shipp is the author of the book, The Grown-Up’s Guide To Teenage Humans. A book that helps adults decode a teens behavior, develop trust, and raise respectable adults.

Guess what? He struggled. I’m talking BIG TIME struggling. Josh was abandoned by a 17yr old mother at birth. He was raised in the foster system his entire teen years and lived in more homes than imaginable. He made himself a complete nightmare to live with so that he would get kicked out of every house. Ultimately, he met his match and no matter what he did, the family would not kick him out. They were in it for the long haul and all of the struggles that came with loving Josh.

His main point is that all kids need one caring adult. One that will ride the wave of life with them. Someone to invest in them by giving them boundaries, time, and support they need to thrive. I believe we all need one caring person. Everyone’s struggle is different but everyone struggles. It breaks my heart to know that there are people out there without one caring person. If you know me and feel that way, please reach out. I’d be more than happy to be that one person for you!
