Mondays with Marnie | Is That Healthy?

IS THAT HEALTHY?

It has gotten hard to determine. I watched an episode on Dr. Phil a few weeks ago and there were clinically obese people claiming that they are as healthy as the other guests who were considered an appropriate weight. At first glance, I thought they were nuts. But, after listening to their stories, I was convinced that they were healthy for them. None of them had poor body image, beat themselves up for cleaning their plates or were suffering any chronic medical conditions. It was working for them. Some had recovered from eating disorders that had landed them in the hospital, some were always on the bigger side and others had jobs as plus sized models.

My point here is that what is healthy or unhealthy for one person may not be for someone else. If working 14 hour days is working for you, who is to decide for you that the schedule is not healthy? One of my favorites is when I am with a group of women who see an attractive, super fit woman. Someone is sure to say that she works out all the time to look that way and it just is not healthy. I usually agree and am thrilled that I shouldn’t do what it takes to look so good. lol

The key is finding our healthy. The balance that keeps us sane, happy and functioning at our best. I’m guilty of comparing myself to others and thinking that I should be able to do what they are doing or grabbing the extra skin on my stomach and beating myself up for it being there. Medically, I am healthy but mentally giving myself a hard time for a few extra lbs is not.

I am working on identifying what healthy looks like for me. Having Shipley’s donuts for breakfast everyday isn’t but never having them isn’t either. What does your healthy look like? It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s as long as it is working for you.

P.S. I have heard that reading this newsletter on Monday is really healthy for everyone! 🙂

The lack of inventory in this country has kept upward pressure on prices.

BAKED GNOCHI ALLA VODKA

I’m going to try this recipe this week. Seems pretty easy and filling! Vodka Sauce & gnocchi, finished with a crispy panko & parmesan topping.

I bet you could try this with the Trader Joes Cauliflower gnocchi too

CURRENTLY I’M…

I’m a sucker for all of the Instagram ads and have purchased more than I should while scrolling. I recently found this face serum and figured I’d give it a try. Who wouldn’t want to be brightened up a bit? It’s organic and all natural too
