Home Maintenance Basics

Owning a home is something to be proud of, so homeowners should take pride in their homes. Basic home maintenance is incredibly important to ensure your home stays in the best condition possible. While there are many, here are just a few key home maintenance items that will save you headaches in the long run.

Flush Water Heater

Sediment builds up in the bottom of your water heater. So it is recommended to flush the system once a year. This is something you can carefully do yourself, or you can hire a plumber to do it for you. This will help with the water heater efficiency and longevity.

HVAC Servicing/Change Filters

It’s recommended that you have your HVAC system serviced twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. A professional HVAC technician will catch concerns before they become a problem. One simple task you can do yourself is changing the air filter per your system requirements. This will help keep things functioning as they’re supposed to.

Clean Gutters

Gutters have one main job- to divert water away from your home. When gutters are filled with debris, it’s difficult for them to do their job. Ensuring your gutters are cleared, means water will easily flow out and away from your home instead of sitting on your roof and potentially causing a roof leak or worse!

Prune Trees

Trees are one of our greatest defenses against the sun during those hot summer months. However, they can cause severe damage to your home if they aren’t well maintained. This means trimming branches that extend over your home and checking for deteriorating branches that could potentially collapse.

Pest Control

It’s easy to disregard pest control as home maintenance, but consider the infestations that can potentially build in your home without quarterly or yearly visits from your pest control tech. During these visits, they are not only spraying to rid your home of current and potential pests, they also conduct a visual inspection of your home. This ensures they are able to catch a potential problem before it gets bad!
