Mondays with Marnie | Finished Product Syndrome

Can You See It?

A few years ago, while showing a young couple houses that needed some remodeling, it hit me! They were having a hard time seeing the houses differently than they were in their current condition. I figured out why….

We only see finished products these days. Even the picture of me above was touched up (I’m sure of it). The art of having vision seems to be a thing of the past. What isn’t shown is the work it takes to become the finished product we see on Instagram.

When we see a musician playing guitar beautifully, we don’t see the 10,000 hours of practice it took for them to become so polished. When we see a pro athlete do their thing, we don’t see the years of blood, sweat and tears it took for them to finally make it in the big leagues. When we see a beautifully remodeled home, we don’t see the ugliness that came before.

Everyone and everything takes work to become a finished product worthy of posting on social media. I don’t want to learn from images of finished products. I want to see the journey it took to get there. That is where the beauty is. The truth is, we as humans are continually evolving (hopefully) and will never be a completely finished product. We are all at different stages in our journey. Embrace the stage you are in. It is an important step along the way to where you are going.

MARKET STATS

“Rent-flation” may be slowing: In July, the median asking rent nationwide rose 14% year over year, reaching $2,032, down from May and June when rent growth was 16% and 15%, respectively. Housing costs are around 40% of CPI.

HAPPENING IN HOUSTON

Dallas-import Il Bracco, a neighborhood Italian restaurant, officially opened this month in the Galleria area. The spicy gemelli pasta is a must! I also loved the whipped ricotta & focaccia and the chicken piccata.

HOME CHEF

Prefer to get your pasta fix at home this week? Try this One pot 30 minute creamy tomato basil pasta bake recipe! Creamy, spicy, tomato basil pesto sauce made with summer tomatoes, basil pesto, and a touch of red enchilada sauce, then tossed with fettuccine pasta, creamy goat cheese, and melty fontina cheese.

I’ve linked the Half-Baked Harvest recipe here!

CURRENTLY I’M…

… trying out these new AHC sunscreen sticks! They glide on smooth for easy reapplication throughout the day. Not to mention, they smell great (way better than normal sunscreen at least!)
