DON’T LOOK BACK!

The self help gurus discourage us from looking back. The past is the past. What’s behind us is behind us. Well, it sure is. I took this a little too far. Firmly committed to not looking in the rearview mirror, last week, I literally did not look. I managed to hit a car parked in my driveway twice in the same week while pulling out of my garage. You’d think after I hit it the first time, I would be extra cautious and look in the rearview mirror before backing out the next day.

Due to the little fender bender the previous day, I knew it was possible that someone was parked behind me, but wasn’t considering that when I backed out of the garage the next day. I felt like a Saturday Night Live skit when I hit the car for the second time. Are you kidding me? Did I really just hit the car in my driveway again? Yup. I sure did.

So, maybe instead of not considering the past or things in the rearview mirror, maybe we should be keenly aware of these things to help us move forward. If we never consider the past, are we forgoing some valuable and critical information that would help us in our future moves and decisions? I have heard that people tend to date or marry the same person over and over again, even after breaking up or divorcing someone because of certain traits, they chose someone who is eerily similar to their ex. I think I’m going to get in the habit of mentally checking my rearview mirror before I make any big decisions. I’m sure there is something worth revisiting to help steer me in the right direction.
