WHAT’S COOKIN?

The summer temps in Houston were record breaking and brutal this summer. I did everything I could to not turn on my oven while cooking. One day, I decided to bake cookies and the recipe called for room temperature butter. I had a great idea and placed two sticks of butter outside for a bit to soften and when I went to grab it, it had melted completely and was dripping off of the plate. This is when I threw in the towel and ordered some trusty Tiffs Treats!

As a kid, I don’t remember anyone baking anything at home. I can still recall when I went to a friend’s house and they were making homemade cookies. I thought, “Wow, this is really a home. This feels special and it feels good.” I remember making a mental note that I would do that with my kids so that they could feel the same way.

Now that we are in a stretch of temps under 100 degrees, I have enjoyed baking again. Here are a few crowd pleasers that I’ve tried recently and enjoyed.

Banana Bread: This one is easy and makes the whole house smell good. I add chocolate chips to mine. YUM.

Pound Cake: I love this one because it isn’t too sweet. I sprinkle mine with powdered sugar once it is out of the oven.

Cinnamon Rolls: I recently had the best cinnamon rolls while on vacation in San Miguel. They were homemade and I’ve been trying to recreate them ever since. These come pretty close, but I’m still experimenting.

CURRENTLY I’M…

After a summer of sleeping under lightweight linen, I am looking forward to adding a layer to my bedding. This organic cotton blanket is a great addition and works well with our not so chilly fall temps. As an added bonus, the price is right at just $89.00.
