Mondays with Marnie | The Big Game

What A Game!

Who doesn’t love some great competition?

It is estimated that over 200 million people tune in to watch the big game. A thirty second commercial costs over 6MM bucks and a large group of viewers are just here for the commercials and half time show. Neilson ratings show that 90% of televisions in private homes are tuned to the game (if they are turned on during that time.)

I love the Super Bowl for a few reasons. The food (duh), entertainment, excuse for a casual get together and the opportunity to watch the power of determination, heart and soul on full display. At first glance, it appeared The Eagles were going to dominate the game and they probably went into half time pretty confident. What happened?

When the Kansas City players were asked what they changed at half time, they pointed to a group decision to dig deep and go back to who they were as players. Statistically they were about as evenly matched as any two teams could be. Sometimes it comes down to who wants it more. I am no football analyst, but when teams are this close on paper, heart and soul must be a significant differentiator.

This is applicable across other life scenarios. I remember going up against a few other top realtors for a significant listing that I really hoped to get. I was thrilled to learn I had been chosen and asked the sellers why they had decided to go with me. As I waited for a statistically driven answer, the reason was simple. They said, “It seemed like you wanted it the most.”

P.S. Did you know that Rihanna is pregnant? No biggie, I’m sure I could have done that show when I was pregnant too! lol
