Choose Your Hard | Mondays with Marnie

I was on vacation with a friend whose 7-year-old twins are hilarious, ridiculously smart, and apparently have a better grasp on life than most adults.

One of them was reading a book called Would You Rather? and started firing questions at all of us. You know the kind…

Would you rather have spaghetti for hair or marshmallows for teeth?

Neither option is exactly a dream, but you have to pick one.

The funniest part wasn’t our answers—it was listening to a 7-year-old passionately defend why marshmallow teeth were obviously the superior choice.

It got me thinking…life never really outgrows Would You Rather? The questions just get less about spaghetti hair and more about choosing your hard.

Would you rather…

…work out or get winded walking up the stairs?

…have the awkward conversation or carry around the resentment?

…stick to a budget or wonder where your money went?

…leave the relationship that’s no longer right or stay and keep hoping it magically changes?

We’re all out here searching for the easy button like it’s hiding behind the air fryer in the pantry.

Spoiler alert: there isn’t one.

Life is full of hard choices. The goal isn’t to avoid hard. The goal is to choose the hard that’s taking you somewhere.

So the next time you’re stuck between two uncomfortable options, don’t ask yourself, “Which one is easier?”

Ask, “Which hard is worth it?”

Because either way…you’re picking one.

XX,
