Who's Driving? | Mondays with Marnie

Y’all, have you seen all the driverless Waymo cars around lately?

Some people love the idea. Others want absolutely nothing to do with them. They’d rather be behind the wheel than trust something they can’t see to get them safely where they need to go.

And it got me thinking… isn’t that a lot like life?

I like a plan. I like knowing where I’m going and how things are going to work out. Uncertainty? Not my favorite.

When things feel up in the air, my instinct is to grab the wheel. I try to fix things, force outcomes and figure out the next five steps before I’ve finished the first one.

But I’m learning that sometimes my need for control is really just discomfort with not knowing what comes next.

I believe God is the driver of my life. And yet, there are plenty of times when I try to take over. I decide I know a better route or a better timeline.

And more often than not, I exhaust myself trying to control things that were never entirely in my hands.

I’m learning there’s a difference between doing my part and trying to control the outcome.

I still have to show up, make decisions and take the next step. But I don’t have to figure out every detail of what comes after that.

For me, believing in God reminds me there’s a bigger picture than the one I can see. Maybe for you, it’s a Higher Power or simply trusting that life can unfold in ways you never could have planned.

So the next time you’re worrying about the unknown, ask yourself:

Am I being called to take action, or am I just uncomfortable not being in control?

Sometimes we need to take the wheel. And sometimes we need to loosen our grip and trust the journey.

Maybe faith isn’t about knowing where you’re going. Maybe it’s about trusting who’s taking you there.

You don’t have to know every turn when you trust the One who’s driving.
