The Only Way Is Through | Mondays with Marnie

If life came with settings, my favorite button would be “Skip the uncomfortable part.”

Root canal? Skip.

Hard conversation? Skip.

Waiting? Skip.

Heartbreak? Definitely skip.

Unfortunately, life keeps reminding me that there is no fast-forward button for growth.

There’s an old saying: “The only way out is through.” I wish it weren’t true, but here we are.

We spend so much time trying to avoid discomfort. We stay busy, overthink, overwork, overeat, over shop, over-scroll, or convince ourselves that if we ignore something long enough, it’ll quietly pack its bags and leave.

It won’t.

Life has a funny way of circling back to the lessons we refuse to learn. They’ll show up in a different job, a different friendship, a different relationship, a different challenge…wearing a fake mustache, but it’s still the same lesson.

The irony is that we completely understand this when it comes to the gym. Nobody expects six-pack abs after one workout. You know soreness is part of getting stronger.

But emotional soreness? We think something must be wrong.

Maybe nothing is wrong.

Maybe you’re just growing.

The uncomfortable conversation, the disappointment, the uncertainty, the season where you don’t have all the answers—those aren’t detours. They’re the path.

And here’s the part I keep reminding myself: discomfort isn’t the enemy. Sometimes it’s the receipt that proves you’re investing in a better future.

So if life feels heavy today, don’t assume you’ve taken a wrong turn. You may be exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Keep going.

Because the only way to get through it…is to go through it.

And the beautiful thing about “through” is that it’s not a place you stay. It’s a place you pass.

XX,
