Mondays with Marnie | I Went Back to College!

I’m a Longhorn!

This past weekend was a blast! I was in Austin with my daughter, Remi. She is a Junior at UT and it was Theta Mom’s Weekend. I wasn’t in a sorority, so I never had a Mom’s weekend. I don’t think my Mom ever visited me in college. That is such B.S. now that I think about it!!Anyways, there is something about pulling into Austin on to MLK boulevard that takes me right back to my days there. It has been almost 30 years since I was a student and everything, or nothing has changed.

We spent one night at the parent’s party for a fraternity. My friends were the parents of Remi’s friends. It is the fraternity house where I met my husband, attended many parties and made life long friends. I could tell you who’s kid was who’s just by looking at them. They are all mini versions of their parents.

I have a saying about people as they get older. I say, “People get more and more like themselves.” Parent’s weekend is an amazing opportunity to see that in action. If someone didn’t dance when we were in college, they still don’t dance and neither do their kids. The people that danced the whole party and were the last to leave were the parents that are still doing that. (Hint: Me and Remi)

As I drove home, I thought to myself, “There is no way I am actually 52 years old!” When I was in my 20’s, it was my opinion that people in their 50’s were way too old to have fun. Boy, was I wrong. If you haven’t danced in a while, turn on some music and dance wherever you are. You don’t want your kid to be the one that doesn’t dance!

MARKET STATS

Single-family homes sales jumped 24.4 percent in March with 9,347 units sold versus 7,511 a year earlier. That marks the tenth straight positive month of sales. On a year-to-date basis, homes sales are running 16.9 percent ahead of 2020’s record pace.

HAPPENING IN HOUSTON

I found this list of the 10 best new brunches in Houston. These spots serve up decadent bites and even better fun! A new personal favorite is Bludorn – which unveiled it’s new brunch on Easter!

IT’S ELECTRIC

What do you think of Mercedes’ first ever electric car? On April 15th, Mercedes released the 2022 EQS, a full-size, five-door car meant to compete directly against the Tesla Model S in the six -figure luxury electric sedan market.
