Mondays with Marnie | Daylight Saving Time

What Are We Actually Saving?

I hope you’ve all adjusted to the great clock flip of November! Yes, it’s that time of year again: Daylight Saving Time (DST), when we gain an hour of sleep and simultaneously lose our minds trying to remember what time it is. It’s like nature’s little reminder that we can all be early risers… or not. But let’s talk about what we’re really saving here.

What exactly are we saving? Are we stashing it away for a rainy day? Is there a big daylight bank out there where we can deposit those precious hours for a future adventure? Because if there is, I’d like to withdraw a few extra hours to tackle my to-do list.

Instead of saving daylight, wouldn’t it be great if we could save time? Imagine if we could bottle up that hour we just “gained” and use it whenever we wanted. “Oh, I’ve got a meeting in 10 minutes? No problem! I’ll just take out my saved hour!” And voilà, you’ve got time for a coffee break. Or a nap. I hear naps are the new black.

But here’s the kicker: while we might be pretending to save an hour by pushing the clocks back, what we really gain is an opportunity to take a moment for ourselves. Yes, an hour of precious time to do things that are important to us—whether that’s diving into a good book, binge-watching that new series everyone’s raving about, or spending quality time with loved ones. So let’s make this a reminder to carve out time in our busy schedules for the things we genuinely care about.

So, as we embrace this extra hour (and try not to dwell on the fact that we’ll lose it again come spring), let’s commit to using it wisely. Whether it’s for a hobby, a Netflix binge, or just enjoying a quiet cup of coffee while staring blankly into space, remember: life is too short to fill your days with mundane tasks. Let’s make it count!

Cheers to saving time in all the right ways!

XX,

Currently I’m…

Feeling squeaky clean. A friend gifted me a box of these disposable face towels as an alternative to wash clothes and I love them. They are supposed to boost overall skin health and I’m all in for that!
