BACK IT UP

Do you have a backup generator? Not for your home, but for yourself? Generators have made it to the top of the features list of things people are looking for in a home. This is fairly recent in Houston. The city experienced a power outage resulting from a hard freeze a few years ago and we were in the dark (and cold) for much too long. That is when I decided that I was wayyyy too old to be freezing in the dark ever again!

I promptly ordered my generator to be installed ASAP. It was no surprise that they were on back order for several months. I wasn’t the only person with the idea. It is reassuring to know that it is able and willing to fire up on a moments notice. I don’t think about it unless I need it.

It made me think of how each person is their own power source that can also go out during a life storm. When things are going well, I feel fabulous. When I feel depleted of energy and down, I turn to my backup generator to keep moving forward. What if we all invested in a backup source of energy for those times? I know that once I am in that place, it would be much too difficult to shop around for what may give me the boost I need.

I quickly turn to the backups that have proven to work for me. Exercise, reading, massage, clean eating, a lot of water, connecting with people and getting plenty of sleep. The more I can continually fuel my backup generator, the more effective it is when I need it. I may not be able to solve everything I am facing at once, but I know that if I make sure to turn on these small steps, I’ll be fired up again in no time.

HAPPENING IN TX

A preliminary design is approved for a $30B storm suppression system running along the Texas coast from Galveston to Corpus Christi. The project is the largest civil works project ever taken on by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Not only could it protect the lives of people on the Gulf Coast, it could also help eliminate supply-chain delays across the country by protecting two large ports during hurricane (CNBC)
