Good Things Keep Happening To Me | Mondays with Marnie

I was listening to a podcast recently—a conversation between Mel Robbins and Gayle King—and it really stuck with me. They were talking about one of Mel’s favorite topics: how our mindset shapes our reality. We’ve all heard that before, but this story made it feel very real.

Gayle shared a moment from her life when things felt especially hard. Kids were sick, life felt heavy, and nothing seemed to be going smoothly. A friend suggested she start each day by saying, “Good things keep happening to me.” Gayle admitted it sounded a little corny and wasn’t exactly expecting miracles—but she figured she had nothing to lose.

So she tried it.

After a few days, something interesting happened. The chaos didn’t disappear, but she started noticing small things that were actually going right in the middle of everything that wasn’t. Little wins. Like her trainer being able to come thirty minutes earlier than usual, which somehow made her entire day work. Not a life-changing moment—but a good one.

We all know the saying, “When it rains, it pours.” And life can absolutely feel like one long downpour at times. I’ve definitely had moments where I felt like I was caught in a perfect storm, convinced that nothing was going my way. Looking back, I’m pretty sure there were good things happening all around me—I just couldn’t see them. I was so focused on what was going wrong that I missed what was going right.

This story made me wonder how much we all miss when we’re busy tallying the losses instead of noticing the quiet wins.

So I think I’m going to try starting my days with that one simple sentence: Good things keep happening to me. Not because it’s magic, but because it might help me pay attention. And maybe if I practice it now, it’ll be easier to remember on the days when it really feels like nothing is going my way.

After all, sometimes the good things are already there—we just need to notice them.
