I was recently in a hotel room, getting ready for an event, feeling like Beyoncé in my dress… until I hit a hard stop mid-back. The zipper. That zipper laughed in my face like, “You thought you could do this alone?”
There I was, arms flailing like a T-Rex, twisting, turning, doing yoga poses I hadn’t practiced since 2007. Still, the zipper wouldn’t budge. I finally had to humble myself and walk—half-zipped—into the hallway to ask a stranger for help.
And you know what? That moment stuck with me.
We live in a world that praises independence. We post quotes like “I got me” and “Self-made,” and don’t get me wrong—I am all about being strong and capable. But let’s get real: even the most independent person needs a zipper buddy sometimes.
That zipper was a reminder that no matter how strong, smart, successful, or organized you are… you’re not meant to do everything alone.
• Maybe you need someone to help talk you through a big decision.
• Maybe you need someone to cheer you on when you’re doubting yourself.
• Maybe you just need someone to hold the other end of the couch while you shove it through a doorway.
Needing someone doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.
So here’s your gentle reminder from someone who can conquer just about anything—but not that dang zipper:
Surround yourself with people who will help you zip up when you can’t reach. And be that person for someone else.
We all need a little help. Sometimes it’s a big life decision. Sometimes it’s just a zipper.
Either way… you were never meant to do life solo.
Who’s in your zipper crew?
