Are Your Friends Leaves, Branches, or Roots? | Mondays with Marnie

I heard something recently that really stuck with me, and I’ve been turning it over in my mind all week. It was a simple idea, but one that carries a lot of weight:

People in your life are like parts of a tree—some are roots, some are branches, and some are leaves.

Let’s break that down for a minute:

🌿 Leaves are beautiful, but they’re temporary. They come into your life for a season. They serve a purpose—maybe to offer shade, color, or even inspiration—but when the weather changes, they fall away. These are the friends or acquaintances who are around during the good times, or when things are easy. And that’s okay! Every tree needs its leaves. Just don’t expect them to stick around when the winds pick up.

🌿 Branches are stronger. They support you, they’re connected for longer, and they seem reliable. But push them too hard, or lean on them in a storm, and sometimes they break. These are the friends who mean well and may walk with you through challenges—up to a point. Their connection is real, but not always built to last.

🌳 Roots though—roots are rare and powerful. They’re hidden underground, not flashy, but they’re the ones feeding the whole tree. They anchor you, support you when life gets hard, and grow deeper with time. Roots are your people. The ones who show up, hold steady, and don’t leave when things get uncomfortable. They keep you grounded.

Why does this matter?

In both life and business, we’re always forming relationships. Some are brief and seasonal, some last for years. But it’s important to know who fits where—not to judge, but to understand.

Knowing who your roots are helps you invest your energy wisely. It reminds you to nurture those deeper connections, to show up for the people who are truly there for you. It also gives you clarity—not everyone is meant to stay, and that’s okay.

So this week, I invite you to think about your own circle.

✨ Who are your leaves?

✨ Who are your branches?

✨ Who are your roots?

And maybe just as important—who are you a root for?

As always, I’m here to be a steady support for you—whether in real estate, community, or just life in general. Let’s keep growing together.
