I heard something recently that stuck with me-not because it was flashy or profound, but because it felt true. Some things feel exhausting for no good reason. Other things take effort, but don’t drain you. That difference matters.
“When you are pushed, you inch. When you are called, you move miles.”
It made me think about how something that shouldn’t be that hard can feel completely overwhelming when we’re being pushed into it. Like when I was younger and my dad told me to clean my bathroom or do the dishes—suddenly it felt like climbing Everest.
But making my bed? Organizing my closet? That felt easy. I wanted to do that.
Same girl. Same amount of time. Totally different energy.
I’ve worked hard my whole life out of necessity. I remember waitressing shifts that felt like they lasted for days. Clock-watching. Counting minutes. Pushing through.
And then… I’d go volunteer with kids after school, and somehow hours would disappear in what felt like minutes. No resistance. No dragging. Just… flow.
I wasn’t being pushed.
I was being called.
There’s a difference.
If your days feel heavy… like you’re constantly pushing or being pushed… it might not be because you’re lazy or unmotivated. It might be because it’s not aligned with what you’re actually meant to be doing.
And that’s the tricky part—because listening to what you’re called to do can feel terrifying. There’s no guarantee. No clear path. Just a quiet pull that asks you to trust it.
So we stay where we are. Safe. Predictable.
Inching along.
But what if the life that feels lighter… faster… more you… is just on the other side of listening?
