Mondays with Marnie | Where Are My Keys?

Since I spend a significant amount of time in my car, I listen to a lot of music. The lyrics of a song caught my attention the other day. It was the song, Already Gone by The Eagles. The part of the song was:

Well, I know it wasn’t you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn’t you who set me free So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key

I have run around looking for my car keys mulitple times when they are right in front of me, in my purse or already in my car. I always feel silly that I didn’t see them or realize they were right in front of my face. This song made me wonder how many times I feel stuck or trapped by someone or something and don’t realize that I am the person holding the keys to get me out of the situation. Do I wait for someone else to unlock the chains?

Nobody else is holding me down and nobody else can set me free. The song was a good reminder that I am the only person that can do those things to and for myself. Do you feel trapped, stuck or held back in some way? Chances are, the keys to the chains are already in your hands but you don’t realize it. I have a visual of a giant key ring with lots of different keys that can unlock me out of various situations. Remembering that I have those “keys” helps me to realize I don’t have to be in any situation that I don’t want to be in at any given time.
