“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” -Unknown
Let’s face it. No student is going to learn anything on accident while we are in a virtual learning situation. Any learning will only happen when the student is determined to learn. As if the classroom did not have enough distractions, leaning at home has so many more. Crying siblings, parents on conference calls, dogs barking, the fridge calling your name for the 100th time and the good ‘ole outdoors. It is going to take a lot of self discipline and the desire to learn for kids to be successful. Human beings were not created to sit still or to stare at a computer screen all day. We need to move our bodies for our minds to fully engage. I encourage everyone to find creative ways for kids to incorporate movement into learning. For example, kids can practice their spelling words when jumping on the trampoline. Bouncing a ball back in forth is a good way to practice math facts. Boys especially need to move for their brains to stay awake. Have you ever started an important conversation with a man, while lying in bed? He fell asleep, right?
In addition to learning the lessons taught in school, we are all learning a magnitude of life lessons. Just think how smart we are all going to be when this is over?
This is a big “You’ve got this” to all of the parents and students out there. Stay determined to learn and be willing to have an open mind on how that actually looks. Man, I am so glad that I am out of school!

HAPPENING IN HOUSTON
Discovery Green Flip the Switch
Discovery Green has laid out a fresh welcome mat under an allée of cathedral oak trees that leads visitors into the park from its northwest corner.
The Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Grand Allée, near the corner of McKinney and LaBranch, now lights up at night, illuminated by energy-efficient LED light sticks that dangle from the tree canopy, casting a lattice pattern on the walkway. The lights are meant to suggest a game of pick-up sticks. Energetic youngsters might also see them as an invitation to hop scotch.
Exhibit runs through August 31, 2020
DESIGN TIP OF THE WEEK
I have been winging the home office game over the past several months. My office has been in my bedroom, dining room, kitchen and den. My house is small but I have decided to carve out a little spot and make my office space somewhere I will enjoy. Check out the article in the link to the photo for some inspiration that I am using to create my space.
Looking Into Protecting My Kid’s and My Eyes!
Did you know approximately 6 in 10 adults receive symptoms of digital eye strain after using the computer for 2 hours? Eye strain, headaches, and blurry vision are not uncommon of regular computer users.
Digital eye strain from increased exposure to blue light on the computer can also make it difficult to focus on your to-do list. Fortunately, blue-screen/blue-light glasses provide what you need to maintain productivity and combat many symptoms of prolonged computer use.
Check out these super cool ones that Warby Parker has made.
